SMS Consent & Messaging Policy
This page documents how businesses using the OperMae booking platform collect explicit SMS consent from their customers, the categories of messages sent, and how recipients can opt out at any time. It is provided as reference material for Twilio A2P 10DLC campaign review.
1. How consent is collected
Consent is collected inside the public booking modal shown at/{business-slug}when a customer books an appointment. The flow is:
- The customer selects a service, provider, date, and time.
- The customer enters their name, email, and — optionally — a mobile phone number.
- Only after a valid mobile phone number has been entered, an SMS consent section is revealed with an unchecked checkbox.
- The customer must explicitly click the checkbox to opt in. The checkbox is never pre-selected, never required, and leaving it unchecked does not block the booking.
- When checked, the timestamp, phone number, IP address, user agent, booking id, business id, consent source, and disclosure version are stored in an audit table (
sms_consent_events).
2. Exact on-screen consent language
I agree to receive automated appointment text messages from {Business Name}
By checking this box, you consent to receive automated SMS messages from {Business Name} regarding your appointments, including:
- Appointment confirmations
- Appointment reminders
- Appointment cancellations
- Appointment reschedules
- Waitlist notifications
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to opt out. For questions, contact the business directly.
The business name is inserted dynamically at render time. The OperMae brand is never referenced inside consent copy.
3. Message categories
- Appointment confirmations — sent once when a booking is created.
- Appointment reminders — sent prior to the appointment start time.
- Appointment cancellations — sent when a booking is cancelled.
- Appointment reschedules — sent when a booking time is changed.
- Waitlist notifications — sent when a previously-full slot opens.
All messages are strictly transactional and directly related to the recipient's own appointment. Marketing/promotional messages, if ever offered by a business, require a separate, distinct opt-in checkbox.
4. Opt-out and help
Recipients may reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe from all further messages. Reply HELP to receive an automated message with the support email. That reply does not open a conversation and is not delivered to the business. Standard carrier keywords (STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, HELP, INFO) are handled by our inbound webhook at /api/public/twilio/inbound.

6. Related policies
Phone numbers collected through the SMS opt-in are used solely to deliver the transactional messages listed above. They are never sold, shared with third parties for their own marketing, or used for purposes outside the recipient's appointment with the booking business.
